Workplace Trends In HVAC/R
Strang, Lynn; Todd, CeCe
Techniques: Connecting Education and Careers (J3), v88 n3 p26-30 Mar 2013
This article presents trends in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) industry, with an emphasis on the importance of technician training programs as exemplified at the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) in Mesa, Arizona. The article states that HVAC workers are increasingly helping their consumers "go green" by using green technology for energy conservation. It describes trends showing that the prospects for HVAC jobs are excellent, particularly for those who have completed training from an accredited technical school like EVIT or through a formal apprenticeship. It describes the options available to HVAC technicians once they enter the field. The article concludes by noting that members of EVIT's HVAC Advisory Council agree that there is a need for more opportunities for students to learn about their industry. They are looking to schools like EVIT to recruit interested students, provide entry-level training, and eventually national certification.
