Fans: An Integral Element of the Green Learning Environment
Wolgelenter, Nina
School Business Affairs, v77 n10 p25-28 Nov 2011
School districts' ongoing efforts to promote sustainability in America's education facilities are helping raise awareness of social responsibility and promoting the positive effects that greening their learning environments has on the general health and productivity of students. One institution that's taking the lead in this movement is Chandler Gilbert Community College in Chandler, Arizona--one of only a few colleges nationwide to receive a Campus Sustainability Award from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. According to Bruce Scharbach, director of facilities services for Chandler-Gilbert, the fans provide a "comfort zone" for students and staff throughout the year. This article discusses how fans can be an integral element when creating an effective learning climate. (Contains 2 figures.)
