Performance Improvement [in HRD].
These four papers are from a symposium that was facilitated by Richard J. Torraco at the 1995 conference of the Academy of Human Resource Development (HRD). "Performance Technology--Isn't It Time We Found Some New Models?" (William J. Rothwell) reviews briefly two classic models, describes criteria for the high performance workplace (HPW), and poses some questions about the possible need for new models to guide human performance improvement that are attuned to the HPW. "Blocks to Improving Performance: Results of an Experientially-Based Group Exercise Using Gilbert's Behavior Engineering Model" (Peter J. Dean, Martha Ray Dean, Rebecca Rebalsky) reports findings of a study that asked participants to identify the factor that, if improved, would contribute the most to the improvement of their work performance. "Emerging Issues in the Reengineering of Corporate Performance Evaluation and Development" (Margaret L. Bailey, Danilo M. Baylen) reports a study that identified issues in three key areas: common performance management (PM) system elements, issues and barriers identified during design and implementation of PM, and strategies used to manage identified issues and barriers. "The Human Resource Developer and the Engineer: New Partners for a New Century" (Peter A. DeLisle) advances the proposal that the two professions best prepared to meet the business and organizational challenges of the millennium and beyond are HRD specialists and practicing engineers.
