On the Road, Measuring the Miles per Applicant
Hoover, Eric
Chronicle of Higher Education, v55 n16 pA1 Dec 2008
Most people in admissions have a road story. There are tales of wrong turns, lost suitcases, and days when they were just well-dressed ghosts, walking in and out of high schools where no students came to see them. These are the trials of admissions representatives who leave their campuses for several weeks each fall. They trek near and far to meet prospective applicants and those who have already applied. Sometimes it's fun. Often it's like a political campaign, all gripping and grinning and repeating oneself at every stop. In this article, the author describes some stories of admissions staff members who spend each fall on the road, pitching the virtues of their colleges at one high school after another.
