Sizing up the 60s
Parini, Jay
Chronicle of Higher Education, v54 n33 pB17 Apr 2008
For the author, the 1960s was a tumultuous era which he associates with a feeling of freedom from old pieties and a sense of fresh possibilities. It was a time of self-indulgence coupled with flamboyance that annoyed many of those in authority, including parents, professors, and politicians. In this article, the author discusses how a new book by Gerard J. DeGroot questions whether the era was marvelous or misguided. In this article, the author offers his views on DeGroot's conclusions about the 1960s.
