Your Choice at Fourteen Plus. A New Guide for the Fourteen Year-Old.
Matthew, Veronica; Smith, Michael
Part of The Careers Research and Advisory Centre Choice Series, this book is written for fourteen year-old or fourteen plus students in England who, for the first time, have a choice in the selection of their school subjects. It covers topics such as decision-making, maintaining a well-balanced educational schedule, and preparing for examinations at sixteen plus (Certificate of Secondary Education or General Certificate of Education: ordinary level). With more educational hurdles, requirements, and major examinations in their schooling as compared to American students, it is important for students in England to allow for flexibility, to keep career doors open as long as possible, and to allow coverage of subject requirements, for any tentative career ideas. Immediate choices will have a bearing on future openings such as sixth form colleges of further education (technical) or colleges of higher education (polytechnics, colleges of education, and universities). Two-thirds of the book consists of a reference section to serve as an informational source for students as to: GCE subjects required by professional bodies, GCE-0-level subjects acceptable by professional bodies, university 0-level requirements, and career requirements (approximately 70 pages of a careers index covering 21 broad career areas).
