Delaware Student Testing Program. State Summary Report: Reading, Mathematics, Writing Spring. 2002 Administration: Grades 3, 5, 8, and 10.
Delaware State Dept. of Education, Dover. Assessment and Accountability Branch.
The results in this report, from the fifth administration of the grades 3, 5, 8, and 10 reading, mathematics, and writing portions of the Delaware Student Testing Program (DSTP), represent an important step in Delawares efforts to educate all students to a higher level. Reading, mathematics, and writing data for grades 3, 5, 8, and 10 are summarized in this report. Science and social studies data for grades 4, 6, 8, and 11 are published in separate reports. Reading and mathematics data are reported as National Percentile Rankings (NPRs), Standards-Based Scores (SBSs), and Performance Levels (PLs). Writing results are reported as SBSs and PLs, and there are no NPRs for writing. The Executive Summary of the report discusses student performance levels and cut scores and reports the state-level results. In reading, at all grades the average SBSs have increased between 2001 and 2002 with the largest increases occurring in grades five and eight. Mathematics skills of students at all four grades measured by the DSTP remained stable or improved between 2001 and 2002. Writing test results show that the percentage of students meeting or exceeding Delawares writing standards increased substantially at grade 3, and increased at grade 8. There was a slight decline at grade 5, and a somewhat larger decline at grade 10. The report also discusses comparing the performance of Delaware students over time. Appendix A contains tables and charts of Spring 2002 DSTP reading, mathematics, and writing results at state and district levels. Appendix B contains school results. Appendix C contains disaggregated data at state and district levels. Appendix D contains school level scores by free and reduced price meal eligibility. (Contains 24 charts and 33 tables.) (SLD)
