Applying Economics Using Interactive Learning Modules
Goma, Ophelia D.
Journal of Educational Technology Systems, v38 n4 p427-435 2009-2010
This article describes the use of web-based, interactive learning modules in the principles of economics course. The learning modules introduce students to important, historical economic events while providing real-world application of the economic theory presented in class. Each module is designed to supplement and complement the economic theory development of standard introductory textbooks. The learning modules apply a variety of technological tools including "Dreamweaver" and "Javascript" to create the website, "Macromedia Flash" to build the interactive learning components, "Fireworks" for the graphic designs and "I-Movies" for the video clips. The fusion of economic theory, historical examples, and technology results in virtual laboratory modules as economics is explored through timelines, movable graphics, data explorations, audio and video clips, slide shows, games, and other interactive tasks.
