Public Education in the United States: A Nation Divided
Bushaw, William J.; Lopez, Shane J.
Phi Delta Kappan, v94 n1 p8-25 Sep 2012
The 44th annual PDK/Gallup Poll of the Public's Attitudes Toward the Public Schools showed some sharp divisions among the public's attitude toward the public schools, but also some hopeful signs of broad agreement in some areas. Satisfaction with President Barack Obama declined in the last year, but remains ahead of two years ago and the public still trusts Democrats more than Republicans on education, although the GOP has made some gains. Support for charter schools fell, but support for school vouchers made a dramatic turnaround following a period of decline. (Contains 45 tables.)
