Modelling Sublimation of Carbon Dioxide
Winkel, Brian
International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, v43 n8 p1077-1085 2012
In this article, the author reports results in their efforts to model sublimation of carbon dioxide and the associated kinetics order and parameter estimation issues in their model. They have offered the reader two sets of data and several approaches to determine the rate of sublimation of a piece of solid dry ice. They presented several models and their analyses for one data set and discovered that a good model for the rate at which the change of mass in dry ice occurs is proportional to the mass to some power, "r," (called the order) which is approximately r = 0.75. Additionally, they have some first principle physics notions with respect to surface area assumptions that make their model reasonable. (Contains 4 tables and 6 figures.)
