The Effect of Tutoring on Math Scores for the Praxis I Exam
Longwell-Grice, Robert; McIlheran, Janine; Schroeder, Mark; Scheele, Steve
Learning Assistance Review, v18 n1 p46-56 Spr 2013
The Praxis test is one of a series of national teacher certification exams written and administered by the Education Testing Service (ETS) since 1947. Currently, forty states now require some form of the Praxis Series (Educational Testing Service, 2011). Using pre- and post-tests similar to the Praxis I math exam, this study examined the affect tutoring has on scores. Results were analyzed by race, gender, year in school and number of math courses taken. The study shows that tutoring has a significant, positive effect on scores. The paper makes recommendations for helping students prepare for the Praxis I exam. (Contains 5 tables.)
