Reformulation of the Michaelis-Menten Equation: How Enzyme-Catalyzed Reactions Depend on Gibbs Energy
Bozlee, Brian J.
Journal of Chemical Education, v84 n1 p106-107 Jan 2007
The impact of raising Gibbs energy of the enzyme-substrate complex (G[subscript 3]) and the reformulation of the Michaelis-Menten equation are discussed. The maximum velocity of the reaction (v[subscript m]) and characteristic constant for the enzyme (K[subscript M]) will increase with increase in Gibbs energy, indicating that the rate of reaction does increase when G[subscript 3] is increased, although a higher concentration of substrate is needed to saturate the enzyme.
