Workplace Environmental Literacy Project (WELP). Final Report.
North Orange County Community Coll. District, Fullerton, CA.
A project was conducted to determine formal and informal competencies based on an expanded definition of workplace environmental literacy. A secondary goal was to develop a compact between employers and training program graduates whereby graduates would have preferential access to employment opportunities. Issues that arose during the implementation of the project were the inadequacy of the calendar portion of the plan of work; the need for continued advisory committee participation; initiation of a new integrated model for the development of workplace environmental literacy competencies; development of a process for auditing the workplace environmental literacy of organizations; assessment through use of a measure of perception of employer expectations rather than through observation of competence; limited number of participants; and impossibility of development of a compact policy priority access and preferential hiring. (Following the 17-page narrative report are extensive attachments, including the Workplace Environmental Literacy Project Plan of Work; quarterly reports; advisory committee information; a bibliography of 14 references; literacy audit documents and completed sample; competency statements by quadrant area; sample employer validation chart; list of competencies for electronic assemblers; participant perception assessment instrument; and behavioral observation checklist assessment instrument.)
