The Economic Impact of the Louisiana State University System on the Louisiana State Economy. AIR Forum 1980 Paper.
Engler, Sheldon D.; And Others
An econometric model was developed for use in measuring the impact of the Louisiana State University (LSU) upon the Louisiana economy. Emphasis is placed on measuring the effects of enrollment changes, salary and wage expenditures, and campus construction activity. The results show that, overall, each dollar spent by the LSU System creates another $.72 of income within the state economy. The model can be applied to any other institution and can be recalibrated at various points in time. It is also useful in demonstrating the importance of institutions to state legislatures and the general public. Areas where improvements could be made in the LSU impact model are noted. (Author/SW)
