Some Thoughts on the History of Rural Special Education: A First Hand Account.
Collins, Belva C.; Schuster, John W.
Rural Special Education Quarterly, v20 n1-2 p22-29 Win-Spr 2001
The history of rural special education delivery and teacher education in Appalachia over the last four decades is traced. Much progress has been made, but rural regions still have a shortage of special education teacher educators, certified personnel, employment opportunities for students with disabilities, and distance education capabilities. A bibliography cites 29 teacher-conducted research projects in special education. (TD)
