Bandhu, Desh, Ed.; Berberet, G., Ed.
This document represents the proceedings of an international conference designed to highlight the urgent need for environmental education. Following the keynote addresses, 63 papers are presented in two sections. The section dealing with "Environmental Education" provides descriptions of environmental education programs in elementary schools, secondary schools, universities, and engineering institutions as well as non-formal educational facilities. The importance of field studies and demonstration projects is emphasized in several papers. The section on "Issues in Environmental Management" includes contributions on such topics as: (1) degradation of the environment resulting from development activities; (2) conservation needs; (3) illegal wildlife trade; (4) pesticide poisoning and treatment; (5) coastal zone management; (6) water pollution; (7) heritage conservation; (8) ecologically sustainable protein production; (9) management of forest resources; and (10) conservation of underexploited plant resources. Most of the papers deal specifically with India, although several presentations are about problems and programs in other nations. (TW)
