Recognize, Respond, and Reinforce: Pilot Models for Mainstreaming Secondary Students Who Are Mild to Moderate Behaviorally Disordered: Technical Papers.
Hoeltke, Gary M.; Toker, Mary Lou
The document contains technical papers on the Pilot Models for Mainstreaming Students with Behavior Disorders project which served 124 secondary students. The first paper presents the results of a factor analysis of the Student Referral Form used in the project which revealed six basic factors (socialization, anxiety, authority, activity level, negative acting out, and reaction to school); while additional analysis data of the identified factors of the referral form are reported in a second paper. Subsequent papers address the following project components: comparisons of referred and nonreferred students on the Student Referral Form, consistency of teacher rating of secondary students' behavior, development of a screening system for identifying mild to moderate behavioral problems in secondary students, procedures for diagnostic testing, design of a parent involvement system, prescriptive instruction as the basic instructional strategy, and project exit procedures. Also provided are an abstract of student based results, 1974-75; an abstract of student based results, 1975-76; and validation data. It is concluded that students with behavioral problems can be helped through a resource room, mainstreaming based program; that improvement in socialization should help the student by creating a better learning environment; and that improvement in relation to authority and negative acting out should have the same effect as above and, in addition, improvement in these two areas should have direct effect on the student's relations with teachers.
