The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the curriculum in electro-mechanical technology differed significantly from that offered by other schools in the nation, and whether the first graduates could be considered employable by various selected industries. The content of curriculums in 33 schools was analyzed, the program was compared with that of other schools, and qualifying examinations of three industries were used to determine the employability of graduates. It was found that many administrators do not differentiate between electronic technology and electro-mechanical technology, relatively few schools offer a program in electro-mechanical technology and the number of graduates does not meet the national need. Also, it was concluded that the program at Oklahoma State University (OSU) contained significantly more technical and laboratory content courses than other schools, that no rigorous criteria can be applied relating to actual employability, and that graduates of the OSU program did not differ significantly from graduates of single specialty curriculums.
