The Placement Handbook. A Guide for the Competitive Employment of the Handicapped.
Horn, Adelaide; Drury, Stephen
This handbook stresses those components that are considered peripheral to the placement process but that must precede the actual placement. The philosophy of placement upon which this guide is based appears first. Discussions follow of the basic components of the process of training and placement of handicapped individuals, including a varied program of vocational training that has qualified personnel who use the latest and most successful training methodologies and techniques, the opportunity for client demonstration of skills in a sheltered atmosphere, and procurement of work contracts for the development and refinement of employable skills. An overview of placement techniques is then presented. The importance of private industry to rehabilitation workshops is emphasized, and the placement person's role in client placement in industry is briefly addressed. Appendixes, amounting to approximately three-fourths of the guide, include information on and procedures for developing a task analysis and examples of task analyses, examples of data collection regarding a client's baseline assessment and progress, a guide to sheltered workshop certification, information on developing profiles, excerpts from the Personal Social Adjustment Training Curricula Manual, and information on job analysis and job requirements.
