Redefining the Role, Scope, and Mission of Community Colleges in an International Context
Manns, Derrick
Community College Journal of Research and Practice, v38 n8 p705-709 2014
In an age of globalization, the need exists to understand international affairs, to recognize cultural values other than our own, and to understand world events from a variety of perspectives. Community colleges can play an important role in this context in preparing students to meet the new demands of the 21st century knowledge-based economy. We have to be able to better serve all students that pass through our doors, especially our underserved populations so that we can change lives, families, and communities. This demand must become a major goal of national and state public policy. To an unprecedented extent, more Americans must prepare for, enroll in, and successfully complete degree and certificate programs.
