This booklet, containing 20 lessons that address social skills, is designed for use by teachers and counselors working with female troubled youth. Each lesson plan provides a goal, a list of materials and detailed directions on how to implement the lesson. Several handouts that accompany the lessons are included. Lesson goals include: introducing the idea that growing up female may present some unique challenges; providing information on avoiding and managing sexual abuse; providing information on coping with incest; assisting students in reconsidering the premise that "a girl is nothing without a guy;" helping students to objectively appraise the realities of teen parenting; discussing the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases; assisting students in appraising the realities of high risk behaviors; assisting students in anticipating and avoiding physical, verbal or sexual abuse/harassment; helping students to form a plan to get help if they ever need it; assisting students to best ensure their own physical safety; helping students to debunk negative and limiting female stereotypes; aiding students in the consideration of sexual abstinence; assisting students in the identification and management of domestic violence and helping students to develop career and life goals.
