This book is primarily designed for a course in planning physical education and athletic facilities and as a supplementary textbook for administration courses. It illustrates the skills necessary for designing and planning facilities, stresses the need for effective communication between planners and users, and covers elementary through college facilities with emphasis on public schools. In addition to considering specific indoor and outdoor areas, discussed are: aesthetics; acoustics; developing educational specifications; reading blueprints; encapsulating structures; synthetic playing surfaces; procedures for evaluating facilities; use of plastics in facilities and equipment; and clear, easy to read court diagrams.
