Nonstandard Topics for Student Presentations in Differential Equations
LeMasurier, Michelle
PRIMUS, v16 n4 p349-357 Dec 2006
An interesting and effective way to showcase the wide variety of fields to which differential equations can be applied is to have students give short oral presentations on a specific application. These talks, which have been presented by 30-40 students per year in our differential equations classes, provide exposure to a diverse array of topics that are generally not covered in a typical differential equations course, and include applications in biology, economics, chemistry, ecology and physics. We will discuss these presentations and provide a list of (classroom tested) presentation topics along with their references, which are from textbooks readily available in most school libraries.
