Standards for Instructional Supervision: Enhancing Teaching and Learning
Gordon, Stephen P., Ed.
Eye on Education
The standards in this book will enhance teaching and learning. The list of the book's contributors reads like a "Who's Who" in the field of instructional supervision. These standards are practical, specific, and flexible, so that schools and districts can adapt them to their own contexts and goals. Each set also includes activities for professional development. This book divides into three parts and fourteen chapters. Part I. Introduction, contains: (1) Toward Standards for Instructional Supervision: A Genealogy of Standards (Henry St. Maurice and Perry Cook); and (2) Standards for Instructional Supervision: Questions and Issues (Judy Castles-Bentley, Sharon Fillion, David Allen, Jane Ross, and Stephen P. Gordon). Part II, Cultural Standards, contains: (3) Standards of Democratic Supervision (Duncan Waite); (4) Standards of Ethical Learning and Teaching (Robert J. Starratt); (5) Standards of Collegiality and Collaboration (Sally J. Zepeda); (6) Standards of Reflective Practice (Daisy Arredondo Rucinski); (7) Standards of Critical Inquiry (John Smyth); and (8) Standards of Diversity (Geneva Gay). Part 3, Process Standards, contains: (9) Standards for Clinical Supervision (Elaine Stotko, Edward Pajak, and Lee Goldsberry); (10) Standards for Teacher Evaluation (Patricia E. Holland); (11) Standards for Supervision of Professional Development (Stephen P. Gordon); (12) Standards for Supervision of Curriculum Development (Bernard Badiali); (13) Standards for Supervision of Action Research (Jeffrey Glanz); and (14) Standards for Program Evaluation (James F. Nolan, Jr.). An appendix presents a list of all proposed standards of: Democratic Supervision; Ethical Learning and Teaching; Collegiality and Collaboration; Reflective Practice; Critical Inquiry; Diversity; Clinical Supervision; Teacher Evaluation; Supervision of Professional Development; Supervision of Curriculum Development; Supervision of Action Research; and Program Evaluation.
