International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme: What It Means to a School Library and Librarian
Tilke, Anthony
School Library Monthly, v27 n5 p8-10 Feb 2011
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP or DP) is a curriculum available to students in the final two years of high school. The library and school librarian can play a role in the school's Diploma program, alongside students, faculty, and administration. School librarians new to the program often ask about guidelines or documents that identify the library's role, but there are not specific library documents. However, it is always worthwhile to talk to school administrators, and specifically the IBDP Coordinator, about how the school library can support the Diploma, as well as look at the newly-issued program standards and practices that have been revised this year and are now program-specific. These standards are used by schools to reflect on their provision and practice. They are also used by inspection teams from the IB, so whether a school is new to the program or has been offering the DP for some time, it is helpful for a school librarian to reflect on these standards with the goal of making the library firmly part of the school's Diploma program.
