Conservation Commissions in Massachusetts.
Scheffey, Andrew J. W.
The Conservation Foundation reported on the experience of a resource development specialist in the state of Massachusetts on the public's growing concern for environmental quality. After tracing the origins of the Massachusetts movement, the report draws upon a variety of specific state experiences to illustrate the commission's growing pains and its growing influence. Included is a description of the commission's successes in the acquisition and protection of open space and wildlife areas, in developing grass roots interest in pollution control, and in acting as a catalyst for conservation action by local and state agencies and by private interests. Information on commission movements in Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, New York, and New Jersey is outlined in a supplementary report. (BB)
