Mathematics Education. K-8 Scope and Sequence of Normal Expectancies With 9-12 Sequential Learning Objectives.
The general philosophy and framework which establish direction and priorities for mathematics education in kindergarten through grade 12 in the Department of Defense Dependents Schools are given in this document. The scope and sequence of normal expectancies for kindergarten through grade 8 highlight specific grade level objectives, while the sequential learning objectives for grades 9-12 portray the secondary curriculum. The introduction lists three goals of the mathematics program, and roles of students, teachers, administrators, and parents. The development of positive attitudes and problem-solving skills are given priority and seven strands related to them are listed: (1) thinking skills; (2) number awareness; (3) estimation/mental mathematics; (4) computational skills; (5) measurement, (6) geometry; and (7) data comprehension. The objectives for each strand are listed for each grade, kindergarten through eight. Objectives are listed without subheadings for each course in grades 9-12. (MNS)
