Caribbean Connections: Moving North.
Sunshine, Catherine A., Ed; Warner, Keith Q., Ed.
This anthology presents the voices of women and men of Caribbean backgrounds living in the United States. Focus is on five most prevalently represented groups: Puerto Ricans, West Indians, Cubans, Haitians, and Dominicans. The book is organized into five sections: (1) "A Primer on Caribbean Migration" presents an overview of Caribbean history and the migration experiences of the five represented groups. A summary of United States immigration law is presented along with a brief discussion of the nation's changing attitudes toward immigrants; (2) "Life Stories" presents the personal narratives of 15 men and women of Caribbean heritage; (3) "Fiction, Memoirs, and Poetry" contains selected literature of Caribbean Americans; (4) "Caribbean Crossroads" makes dual references to the communities where Caribbean immigrants have settled as a crossroads of U.S. and Caribbean cultures and a place where people from different parts of the Caribbean bring their cultures into contact with one another; and (5) "Resources" provides suggestions for further reading.
