Computer Cache. The Web Has Tales to Tell: Traditional Literature Websites
Byerly, Greg; Brodie, Carolyn S.
School Library Media Activities Monthly, v21 n3 p31-32, 40 Nov 2004
"Traditional Literature" is defined by Carl M. Tomlinson and Carol Lynch-Brown in "Essentials of Children's Literature (Allyn and Bacon, 2001) as "the body of ancient stories and poems that grew out of the human quest to understand the natural and spiritual worlds and that was preserved through time by the oral tradition of storytelling before being eventually written down." With no known authors, these stories are connected with particular cultures and usually considered to be primarily fantasy. This column focuses on Web resources for this particular type of literature, i.e., myths, epics, legends, tall tales, folktales, and fables.
