Work. CEM Topic Folder Number Two.
Christian Education Movement, London (England).
This document is designed to help British secondary school students and other young adults understand the nature of work before they become wage earners. The document comprises a folder and eight loose-leaf flyers dealing with aspects of work. Work is interpreted to include industry, commerce, distribution, public services, and other paid or unpaid occupations. The folder provides basic background materials for each of the eight work sheets, lists publications for further reading, and provides a directory of organizations in England which assist people seeking employment. Topics of the work sheets are union origins, union activities, conditions of work, government and industry, management, finding a job, social services, and work. For each work sheet, information is presented on background, current status, personnel, relevant legislation, objectives, and predictions. Each work sheet concludes with discussion questions. For example, students are asked to discuss how much danger in the workplace is reasonable, how decisions about production matters should be made, how to evaluate a job offer, and how far the government should interfere to protect workers and the jobless.
