Cesar Chavez--Grade Nine Model Curriculum and Resources.
California State Dept. of Education, Sacramento.
This California state curriculum model for grade 9 about Cesar Chavez explains that grade 9 is an elective year for social studies courses and that one of the electives is a course about contemporary California. It suggests that students in schools offering this course could study the role of Chavez in 20th century California and his legacy. A 13-chapter biography of Cesar Chavez (appropriate for middle school students) is provided. The chapters are: (1) "Cuentos (Stories)"; (2) "Cultura (Culture)"; (3) Trabajadores (The Workers)"; (4) "Dignidad (Dignity)"; (5) "La Causa (The Cause)"; (6) "Entrenando (The Power of Organizing)"; (7) "Si, Se Puede (Yes, It Can Be Done)"; (8) "La Huelga (The Strike)"; (9) "Problems y Ayuda (Problems and Help)"; (10) "Tiene La Lumbre Adentro (He Has the Light Inside)"; (11) "Viva La Causa (Long Live the Cause)"; (12) "El Fin y El Futuro (The End and A New Beginning)"; and (13) "The Legacy of Cesar E. Chavez." It includes 15 notes and an 11-item bibliography. (BT)
