Creating School-Community-Business Partnerships. Fastback 423.
Hopkins, Barbara J.; Wendel, Frederick C.
In many communities there is a need to reconnect schools to community entities, including businesses. This fastback is designed to act as a guide to partnership-program development. It begins with a brief history of partnerships, tracks the development of partnership programs, outlines key roles, and identifies the indicators of partnership-program success. The National Association of Partners in Education identified the following steps for developing successful partnership programs: identify the mission, match needs and resources, offer mutual benefits, maintain communication among all stakeholders, identify leadership, procure the commitment of the top leaders of each organization, recognize volunteers, and share evaluation results. Indicators of genuinely reciprocal partnerships (Mann 1984) include a coordinating structure, multiple purposes, multiple players, and stability. School-community partnerships provide a powerful sources of support for schools. Two tables are included. (Contains 47 references). (LMI)
