Issues of Validity in Intercultural Professional Communication Research.
Thatcher, Barry
Journal of Business and Technical Communication, v15 n4 p458-89 Oct 2001
Explores three ways to design cross-cultural studies to be more valid and ethical: (1) intercultural researchers need to distinguish broad rhetorical and cultural patterns from regional, organizational, and personal patterns; (2) United States researchers need to distinguish differences in rhetorical patterns in a form of communication and ways that form is used rhetorically; and (3) researcher-participant relationships need to be sensitive to values of organizational relationships in both cultures.
