Job opportunities in various fields are described for college students. Each description begins with a definition of the job, followed by a report of the tasks involved, usually with perceptions from young people in their twenties or thirties. Each job lists requisite educational, computer, and personal skills. The computer skills are rated from one to six, indicating the skill level necessary for the job. Information about the numbers of people in each career is included, with citations of women and blacks, whenever possible. Specific numbers or percentages of people working for the various types of firms or agencies and the primary geographic locations of each job are provided. Average salaries are also cited for each career. When examining each career category, suggestions are offered for other careers using similar skills and interests. Also covered are: workstyle options, women and work, men and work, assessing one's skills, interviewing people in certain careers, student jobs, internship experiences and stopping school for a while to work, and changing careers.
