Curriculum Studies in Brazil: Intellectual Histories, Present Circumstances. International and Development Education
Pinar, William F., Ed.
Palgrave Macmillan
This collection, comprised of chapters focused on the intellectual histories and present circumstances of curriculum studies in Brazil, is Pinar's summary of exchanges (occurring over a two-year period) between the authors and members of an International Panel (scholars working in Finland, South Africa, the United States). From these and the essays Pinar identifies four concepts summarizing curriculum studies in Brazil: enunciation, eventfulness, the quotidian, and hybridity. The Brazilian scholars have the "last word" in this work. What becomes clear is that curriculum studies in Brazil is one of the most theoretically sophisticated and intellectually dynamic fields in the world today. Contents of this book include: (1) Curriculum Studies in Brazil: An Overview (A. Kumar); (2) Everyday Life in Schools (N. Alves); (3) Curriculum Disfiguration (A. C. Amorim); (4) Curriculum Research in Brazil (E. S. de Sa Barretto); (5) Curriculum as Practiced (C. E. Ferraco); (6) Libraries and Identities (A. C. Lopes); (7) Curriculum as Enunciation (El. Macedo); (8) The Primacy of the Quotidian (I. B. de Oliveira); (9) The Exchanges (W. F. Pinar); (10) Curriculum Studies in Brazil: Four Concepts (W. F. Pinar); and (11) Epilogue: The Final Word (A. C. Amorim & E.Macedo).
