Boron Clusters Come of Age
Grimes, Russell N.
Journal of Chemical Education, v81 n5 p658 May 2004
Boron is the only element other than carbon that can build molecules of unlimited size by covalently boding to itself, a property known as catenation. In contrast to the chains and rings favored by carbon, boron arguably adopts a cluster motif that is reflected in the various forms of the pure element and in the huge area of polyhedral borane chemistry that has developed over the years.
