Resources for the Marketplace.
Shropshire, William O.; And Others
Elementary Economist, v6 n1 1984-85
A conceptual introduction to the nature of resources and their role in production and in the marketplace begins this issue. Four instructional units follow, beginning with "Nature Is Resourceful," a unit intended for preschool and kindergarten children built around a nature/resource walk, making sun tea, and analyzing the story of the "Three Pigs." The first and second grade unit offers seven separate "resource awareness" activities ranging from reading to making a product. "Rounding Up Resources," the unit for third and fourth grade children, involves students in using maps to identify natural resources, marketing natural resources, and tracing the production of paper. The fifth and sixth grade unit, called "Blue Jeans to Income," helps students investigate the factors of production and examine the relationships between income, economic well-being, and control of economic resources. This issue concludes with announcements of the "Striving for Excellence" awards competition held in conjunction with the 1984 Summer Olympics and with membership information for the National Center of Economic Education for Children.
