The practice of requiring others to engage in activities that humiliate, degrade, abuses, and/or endangers them in order to join an organization is becoming increasingly prevalent on college campuses and beyond. These activities have resulted in physical and emotional scars are well as lead to deaths. Using Racial Identity Theory and Social Identity Theory, this paper examines the relationship between racial identity and hazing attitudes among Black sorority women. One hundred and nine Black college women (members and non sorority members) completed two survey instruments designed to measure their racial identity and hazing attitudes. The relationship between racial identity and hazing was mildly supported but the Centrality of membership emerged as a significant influence on hazing attitudes.
