Broering, Naomi C.; And Others
Strategic planning for an Integrated Academic Information Management System (IAIMS) for Georgetown University Medical Center is considered. The goal is to organize and transmit accessible and timely biomedical information where it is needed. Activities are proposed for education, research, patient care, management, sharing information on applications, medical informatics, IAIMS conferences, and cooperative efforts. An IAIMS leadership and organization plan is outlined, along with functional goals for medical center divisions (e.g., medicine, dentistry). Also covered are: network system implementation; information flow; resources needed to implement IAIMS, timetable for the 10-year implementation plan; accomplishments and problems encountered in planning, the self-study, and the implementation plan. Environmental forecasting for patient care, education, research, management, information access, and technology are addressed. An institutional self-study covers existing technology capabilities and information management goals and requirements. Appendices following volumes 1 and 4 include: information on affiliated hospitals and health centers; IAIMS project participants and advisory board members; self-study survey of automated systems, interview schedule, and sample reports.
