Development and Management of Virtual Schools: Issues and Trends
Cavanaugh, Catherine, Ed.
Information Science Publishing
Virtual schools are a result of widespread changes in knowledge about learning, in available technology and in society. Virtual schooling is growing in popularity and will continue to attract students because of the benefits it offers over traditional schooling. Stakeholders in virtual schools need information to guide their decisions. For the foreseeable future, virtual schools will continue to meet diverse student needs, and to evolve in response to further change. "Development and Management of Virtual Schools: Issues and Trends" brings together knowledge of virtual schools as a reference for scholars and other groups involved in virtual schools. The chapters review best practice from concept and development, through implementation and evaluation. Chapters of this book include: (1) Virtual Schools (Glenn Russell); (2) Administering a Virtual School (Gaye Long); (3) Managing Virtual Schools (Margaret Haughey and William Muirhead); (4) Distance Learning Success Factors in the Resources-Processes-Results Cycle and Virtual School Accreditation (Cathy Cavanaugh); (5) Distance Learning as a Form of Accommodation (Terence Cavanaugh); (6) Teaching Any Time, Any Place, Any Pace (Sharon Johnston); (7) Professional Development Recommendations for Online Courses (Janice Hinson and Rachel Bordelon Sellers); (8) The Management of Virtual Classes in School District Digital Intranets (Ken Stevens); (9) Virtual Vignettes and Pedagogical Potentials (Donna Pendergast and Cushla Kapitzke); (10) The Collaborative Critical Incident Tool (John Carroll, Dennis Neale, and Phillip Isenhour); (11) Science Net (Leo Hin and R.
