School Volunteer Program. A Two-Year Evaluation Report.
Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp., Columbus, IN.
This report evaluates a volunteer program established in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation in Columbus, Indiana. Areas identified for evaluation were (1) the fulfillment or achievement of program objectives; (2) measurable differences in volunteers' attitudes toward the schooling process and parenting skills, as well as their self-concept development and locus of control; (3) general reactions and perceived impact of the program; (4) the effect of volunteer programs on student achievement; and (5) the cost effectiveness of the program. Data were gathered via distribution of questionnaires to and interviews with a cross-section of professional educators, school volunteers, and community nonvolunteers. The overall ratings by both volunteers and professional educators indicated that the program had done well above average in achieving its objectives. In addition, the program was deemed highly cost effective, with 16 percent of the program supported by school corporation hard money and 84 percent supported by external services. A copy of the questionnaire is included. (Author/LD)
