Journalism's "Last" Stand: Wirephoto and the Discourse of Resistance.
Zelizer, Barbie
Journal of Communication, v45 n2 p78-92 Spr 1995
Examines the tensions surrounding the introduction of wirephoto into United States newspapers in the 1930s. Demonstrates that American journalists resisted the new pictorial technology by denouncing, disembodying, and deflating the technology. Suggests that journalism missed the challenge of adapting to photography by not fully considering its appropriate place in the profession. (SR)
