Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders among Students in Christian Colleges and Universities
Johnson, Jacob J.
Christian Higher Education, v10 n1 p57-70 2011
This article explores current research, diagnosis, and common problems of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among Christian college and university students. For years, ADHD was believed to dissipate as children mature, but current research contradicts that belief. Proctor (2009) and others detail the continuance of ADHD into adulthood and the increase of first-time diagnoses among young adults. This article includes common symptoms, current clinical definitions, probable causes, and the recent backlash in the worldwide medical community. A theological reflection on students with ADHD and other disabilities is offered. A personal reflection is also provided along with suggestions for assisting students with ADHD.
