School-Based Extracurricular Astronomy
Stanger, Jeffrey J.
Teaching Science, v56 n2 p41-45 Jun 2010
The International Year of Astronomy in 2009 focused considerable public attention on Astronomy and generated valuable resources for educators. These activities are an effective vehicle for promoting Science to students and to the wider school community. The most engaging practical astronomy activities are best delivered with sustained support from the astronomical community, and this community needs to know how to support them. This paper outlines a model for a high school astronomy club, presents a number of successful activities, and suggests how these activities can best be supported. (Contains 5 photos.)
