Descy, Don E.
TechTrends: Linking Research and Practice to Improve Learning, v53 n3 p7-8 May 2009
There are hundreds of unique search engines in the United States and thousands of unique search engines around the world. If people get into search engines designed just to search particular web sites, the number is in the hundreds of thousands. This article looks at: (1) clustering search engines, such as KartOO (www.kartoo.com) and Grokker (www.grokker.com); (2) recommendation search engines, such as liveplasma (www.liveplasma.com); (3) artificial intelligence engines, such as ChaCha (www.chacha.com) and Clueray (www.clueray.com); (4) visual search engines, such as SearchMe (www.searchme.com) and Yoozila (www.yoozila.com); and (5) specialized search engines, such as Addict-o-matic (addictomatic.com) and INFOMINE (infomine.ucr.edu). The author encourages readers to sample some of the unusual and interesting search engines that are available.
