Developing a Culture of Transfer and Student Success in Arizona
Harper-Marinick, Maria; Swarthout, Jeanne
New Directions for Community Colleges, n160 p79-89 Win 2012
Student success in transfer from a community college to a university is dependent on several key characteristics of any articulation and transfer system: structure, policies and processes, and the accessibility of the system design. The public institutions of higher education in Arizona have designed and implemented a transfer and articulation system with these key characteristics made central. This chapter provides an overview of the transfer model in Arizona, including the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC), transfer associate degrees, and a shared course numbering system. It highlights the importance of collaborations between the community colleges and universities, and among public institutions of higher education and the K-12 system.
