Education & Technology: Reflections on Computing in Classrooms.
Fisher, Charles, Ed.; Dwyer, David C., Ed.; Yocam, Keith, Ed.
This volume examines learning in the age of technology, describes changing practices in technology-rich classrooms, and proposes new ways to support teachers as they incorporate technology into their work. It commemorates the eleventh anniversary of the Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow (ACOT) Project, when Apple Computer, Inc., in partnership with a handful of far-flung school districts, carried out long-term research and development on productive uses of technology in schools. The book begins with an overview of the ACOT project followed by three thematic sections. The first section: "Learning in the Age of Technology" presents five contrasting views of the recent past and possible futures. The second section: "Tools, Tasks, Teaching, and Student Learning" contains seven chapters exploring the evolving story of tools, practice, and student learning. The third section "Engaging Teachers on the Road Ahead" includes four accounts of programs designed to prepare teachers to work in the new environment. Includes an index. (AEF)
