Race, Rural Residence, and Wildland Visitation: Examining the Influence of Sociocultural Meaning.
Johnson, Cassandra Y.; And Others
Rural Sociology, v62 n1 p89-110 Spr 1997
Survey of 427 residents (both blacks and whites) of six rural Florida counties near Apalachicola National Forest found that blacks visited wildlands less and had less favorable definitions of wildlands, compared to whites. Differences in meanings attached to wildlands explained racial differences in wildland visitation. Sex and age also predicted both wildland meaning and visitation. Contains 76 references. (Author/SV)
