This six-chapter document (part of a series on biology and human welfare) focuses on agriculture and the teaching of this subject area. Major topic areas considered in the first five chapters are: (1) the development of agriculture; (2) agricosystems (considering agriculture as an ecosystem, land utilization and soils, soils and food production, irrigation, and others); (3) agricultural development and food production (examining agriculture and economics, crop zones, agrochemicals, and others); (4) biotechnology and agriculture (considering plant tissue culture, biofertilizers, animal husbandry, and others); and (5) agriculture, people, and food (discussing malnutrition, protein foods, future prospects, and others). The sixth chapter is a curriculum guide for teaching about agriculture in biology courses. Comments on how the subject fits into secondary school biology courses, descriptions of various teaching and learning strategies, and a chart on agricultural aspects of biological education (listing areas of concern and concepts, principles, and/or topics with related practical experiences, teaching/learning strategies, and values/skills fostered) are included.
