Peer Clique Participation and Social Status in Preadolescence.
Bagwell, Catherine L.; Coie, John D.; Terry, Robert A.; Lochman, John E.
Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, v46 n2 p280-305 Apr 2000
Assessed fourth-graders' peer clique characteristics as a function of socioeconomic status, gender, and aggressiveness. Found that rejected youth were less central group members than average-status peers; aggressive preadolescents were no less involved than nonaggressive peers; rejected preadolescents belonged to smaller cliques and cliques comprised of low-status peers; and aggression was associated with being central members of deviant peer cliques.
